Indonesia to Launch Special Task Force to Address Layoffs

1 day ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli has spoken up about the impending formation of the Layoffs Task Force (Satgas PHK). The establishment of this task force was initially announced by President Prabowo Subianto during the May Day rally at Monas on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

"The Layoffs Task Force is actually just waiting for its official launch," Yassierli said during a press conference at the Manpower Ministry office on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. "Please wait for it."

Yassierli explained that the Layoffs Task Force will not only focus on reducing the impact of job losses but will also deal with labor issues from upstream to downstream. Consequently, the creation of this task force involves cross-ministerial cooperation. "We hope this can review regulations or policies that may affect economic conditions and so on," he said.

He added that the government intends to consolidate various labor relations issues through this new task force. Furthermore, the task force is designed to respond to the impact of layoffs by facilitating the creation of new job opportunities. It will also provide information about available positions.

"The Task Force can also redirect or provide information about where these job opportunities are available," Yassierli commented after an event at the Komnas HAM Office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Previously, on May 7, 2025, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, confirmed that the draft Presidential Decree (Keppres) for the Layoffs Task Force had been prepared and submitted to the Ministry of State Secretariat. In addition to the Layoffs Task Force, similar Presidential Decrees have also been proposed for the establishment of the Deregulation Task Force and the Indonesia-America Negotiation Task Force.
