TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced the date for Eid al-Adha in 2025. After a closed isbat meeting on Tuesday, the government announced that this year's Eid al-Adha will fall on Friday, June 6, 2025.
This decision comes after the ministry's earlier conclusion that 1 Zulhijjah coincides with Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
"After receiving a report from the rukyat (moon calculation and sighting team) committee observing the moon in Aceh at the last minute (of isbat session), we can conclude that the beginning of Zulhijjah falls on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, therefore 10 Zulhijjah falls on Friday, June 6, 2025," said Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar during a press conference at the ministry building on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Prior to the meeting, the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Guidance at the Ministry, Arsad Hidayat, presented the results of the ministry's observation on May 27, 2025, at 114 monitoring points across Indonesia.
Based on the hisab rukyat team's calculations, he explained, the position of the crescent moon at sunset in all areas of Indonesia was already above the horizon, ranging from 0 degrees 44.15 minutes to 3 degrees 12.29 minutes. Meanwhile, the elongation angle ranged from 5 degrees 50.64 minutes to 7 degrees 6.27 minutes.
"This condition has met the criteria of the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS), which is the main reference for the early determination of the Hijriah month in Southeast Asia," Arsad said.
The isbat process began with a Seminar on the Position of the First Hilal of Zulhijjah 1446 H at 4:30 p.m. local time. The seminar was attended by representatives of friendly diplomatic missions, astronomy experts, Islamic organizations, as well as various related agencies such as LAPAN, BMKG, BRIN, and Bosscha Planetarium.
The deliberation session took place behind closed doors at 7:00 p.m. local time.
Meanwhile, the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah had previously announced the Eid al-Adha date earlier this month. The Islamic organization also determined the holiday to fall on Friday, June 6, 2025.
