TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Military (TNI) held a Joint Sea Operation Exercise in the Karimunjawa Waters, Semarang, Central Java on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The defense institution also conducted special weapon shooting exercises at the location.
The exercise in Karimunjawa was attended by Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Vice TNI Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita. Three chiefs of the armed forces staff also participated in the joint exercise, which is considered a manifestation of the defense institution's commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
In his statement, TNI Information Center Chief Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah said that the exercise in the Karimunjawa waters involved 20 Indonesian Republic Warships and F-16 fighter jets owned by the TNI Air Force. This large-scale exercise, he said, involved combat simulations.
"The former KRI Teluk Hading (a Frosch-class landing ship) was used as a target, and was successfully destroyed through integrated sea and air Matra attacks," he said in his statement on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
He explained that the target destruction operation in this joint TNI exercise was divided into two phases. The first phase, he said, began with the firing of Exocet MM40 Block 3 missiles by the KRI units.
Then the second phase of target destruction was carried out through Overwater Underwater Law or OULL. This operation was carried out by the firing of MK-13 bombs by three units of TNI AU F-16 aircraft.
In addition to missile and bomb attacks, he explained that the exercise was also conducted through the Striking Force element. This exercise was carried out by the Indonesian Navy by holding an Artillery Duel, utilizing a high-precision modern shooting system.
"Through this activity, the TNI continues to hone the readiness and combat capabilities of soldiers, especially in facing various potential threats in maritime areas," Aulia said.
