TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The social media platform Instagram is currently testing an algorithm setting that aligns with users' needs and preferences. This information was conveyed directly by the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, through a post on his personal account.
Mosseri mentioned that his team aims to develop an algorithm that goes beyond settings and is truly in line with the user experience. "Something that feels central to your experience on Instagram," Mosseri said, as quoted from TechCrunch report on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
In the Instagram executive's post, several slides were also seen, containing updates to this algorithm system. One interesting example is that the Instagram feed will be displayed alongside the algorithm menu, which is tailored to user preferences. The same goes for its reels feature.
This development plan for the algorithm setting also addresses the needs of the majority of users who want to enjoy social media by only seeing their close friends or followers. Moreover, the increasing number of Instagram users has caused distractions because many unfamiliar accounts appear in the search feed.
