Jakarta's JakCare Service Saves Two People from Suicide Attempts, Says Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that JakCare, the mental health service by the Jakarta Provincial Government, has saved two individuals who were on the verge of suicide. The report, he said, came from Jakarta Health Office Head Ani Ruspitawati.

"As soon as I opened (JakCare), not even two or three days later, I received a report from the Head of the Office, two days ago there were two people intending to commit suicide," Pramono said in Jakarta on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

He credited the quick response of JakCare’s health personnel for saving the individuals, who had contacted the service in distress. According to Pramono, the fast action was possible thanks to Jakarta’s 24/7-monitored JAKI application.

"Both of them were saved. How could JakCare respond so quickly? Jakarta has something called JAKI, the channels are everywhere and it is monitored by the Jakarta Provincial Government 24 hours a day," he added, as quoted by Antara on May 27.

Pramono also plans to invite the two individuals, once recovered, to share their experiences and highlight the importance of mental health counseling.

JakCare, launched in mid-May, offers 24-hour access to clinical psychologists via the JAKI app or phone. It’s one of three new health initiatives introduced as part of the 100-day program under Pramono and Deputy Governor Rano Karno.

 "I was surprised that JakCare saved two suicide cases. One drank poison and the other cut their wrists. So this shows that what we planned will hopefully be beneficial for the people of Jakarta," said Pramono in mid-May.

In addition to JakCare, there is also the Pasukan Putih or Home Service for the Elderly in Jakarta to help the people access health services more easily. The launch of this service is one of the 100-day programs of "Quick Wins Pramono Anung and Rano Karno."

"'Pasukan Putih' is a health service for the people, especially for the elderly," said Pramono when met in Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

In addition, Pramono also inaugurated the JakAmbulans service. The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared 86 advanced ambulances (equipped with medical equipment) and 17 Rapid Reaction Units (RRUs) in the form of motorcycles to reach people in locations that are difficult to access by car. People who need this service can contact 112, 119, or through JAKI.
