TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach of the Indonesian U-23 national team, Gerald Vanenburg, stated that Jens Raven is ready to play in the match against the Philippines in the second match of Group A of the ASEAN U-23 Championship or the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. The game will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 8:00 PM WIB.
Vanenburg confirmed Raven's condition, who had experienced cramps in the first match against Brunei Darussalam. In that match, he scored six goals in the 8-0 victory over Brunei. "He had some muscle problems. However, he is better now. So, normally we can play him tomorrow," said Vanenburg during the U-23 national team training session at the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
The match against the Philippines will be crucial for both teams. The winner of the game will have a great chance to secure a place in the semifinal. When asked about the possibility of rotating players, including benching Raven, Vanenburg said, "We will see tomorrow."
Furthermore, the six goals scored by Raven put him at the top of the current top scorer list of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. These six goals brought his total to 14 goals for Garuda Muda since his debut with the U-19 national team in Surabaya last year at the ASEAN U-19 Boys Championship.
Currently, the Indonesian U-23 national team leads the Group A standings with three points, ahead of the Philippines in second place by goal difference. Eventually, the top three group winners and the best runner-up will advance to the semifinals.
