Lawyer Denies Febrie Adriansyah Received Money from Tan Kian

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lawyer for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah (FA), Hotman Paris Hutapea, denied that his client received money from property entrepreneur Tan Kian.

"Regarding whether Tan Kian knew about giving over Rp50 billion, the answer is no. What's clear is that there's no money involved," he said at a press conference at the AGO's Jampidsus Building in Jakarta on Friday, as reported by ANTARA.

He made this statement after Febrie was questioned by AGO investigators as a suspect in a case of alleged corruption and money laundering in the legal proceedings by state officials in the PT Asabri case from 2020 to 2024. National Police investigators determined the suspect's status before the case was ultimately handed over to the AGO.

According to Hotman, if Tan Kian really did give a bribe to Febrie, then the businessman should be a suspect. "If he's the briber, why isn't he a suspect now? Why is the Jampidsus, a high-ranking law enforcement official, immediately named a suspect?" he asked.

In addition, he said that the 12 judges who tried the legal process of the PT Asabri corruption case up to the judicial review (PK) stage never questioned Tan Kian's status as a witness.

The lawyer also claimed that Tan Kian had no connection to the PT Asabri corruption case. He said that Tan Kian's involvement was only in operational cooperation (KSO) with one of the suspects in the Asabri corruption case, namely Benny Tjokrosaputro.

"Benny Tjokro owns land, and he formed a joint venture with Tan Kian. So, it's a partnership. Regarding the land, it's not Asabri's land, but Benny Tjokro's land," he said.

"The land involved in the operational cooperation has been confiscated by the Prosecutor's Office and is undergoing an auction. This means zero assets from Asabri were taken by Tan Kian, causing losses to state finances," he emphasized.

Previously, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police stated that they had investigated Tan Kian for three cases of alleged corruption and money laundering. One of these cases was related to the legal proceedings involving state officials in the PT Asabri case during the 2020-2024 period.

Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said that Tan Kian was among the 15 witnesses who had been questioned.

"We conveyed that the examination earlier included 15 witnesses who were questioned, one of whom was Tan Kian. Therefore, the person concerned still has the status of a witness," he said.

AGO issued an investigation order (sprindik) after receiving a transfer of three cases from the National Police as part of a synergy in law enforcement. First is sprindik number 43, the alleged corruption and money laundering case involving PT KNI.

Second, sprindik number 44 refers to the alleged corruption case concerning coal management at the steam power plant, which is suspected of triggering the blackout.

Lastly, sprindik number 45 refers to the alleged corruption and money laundering case involving the PT Asabri.
