Minister Ensures That People's School Students Come from Underprivileged Backgrounds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Empowerment of Society Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has ensured that the People's School students truly come from underprivileged backgrounds. Muhaimin said that the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) had verified the data of People's School students directly.

"Yes, the Ministry of Social Affairs conducts home visits. Once they obtain the data, their team visits the homes of the prospective students, takes photographs, counts, and calculates. So, it is based on the factual condition of their homes," said Cak Imin, his nickname, in the Tanah Abang area, Jakarta, on Monday night, July 14, 2025.

Previously, the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf also ensured that every candidate of People's School student has met the government's stipulations. Firstly, they must pass the administration process or be included in the National Single Data for Social and Economic (DTSEN) at Deciles 1 and 2.

After that, the Minister said, the committee or appointed parties will visit the homes of the prospective students to ensure that the entered data matches the actual conditions in the field. Subsequently, Kemensos, in coordination with regional governments, ensures that every individual registered is truly eligible to attend the People's School.

Lastly, each candidate of the People's School student will undergo a health test before being accepted.

The Minister explained that the validation of this data follows a mechanism or is in accordance with the instructions of IndonesianPresident Prabowo Subianto. This means that individuals who register for People's School are genuinely from economically underprivileged families, namely the poor and extremely poor.
