TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has summoned former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, to testify as a witness in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops.
"The investigators have scheduled and summoned Nadiem Makarim to be examined as a witness on Monday, June 23, 2025," said Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center, Harli Siregar, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Nadiem is expected to appear at 9:00 a.m. at the Circular Building of the AGO’s headquarters in Jakarta. The official summons was issued by the AGO’s investigation team on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The case concerns suspected corruption in the Rp9.9 trillion Chromebook procurement project under the 2020–2022 education digitalization program. Investigators are examining whether a change in laptop specifications deviated from school needs.
Harli explained that Nadiem’s testimony is relevant due to his position at the time. "It is certainly very relevant to the oversight functions performed by the individual in monitoring the implementation of the Chromebook procurement," he said.
Investigators plan to question Nadiem about the technical aspects of the procurement process, given his role as the top official in the ministry during the period in question.
"I believe his testimony is very important, particularly concerning a substantial budget of Rp9.9 trillion, hence it is very reasonable for the investigators to summon and bring him for examination as a witness in the investigative process," Harli added.
The AGO expects Nadiem to comply with the summons and attend next week's examination.
