TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - OpenAI is reportedly preparing to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered browser in the coming weeks. According to reports, the browser is expected to feature a ChatGPT-style user interface, allowing users to interact directly with the AI chatbot instead of visiting OpenAI’s official website.
Several outlets, including The Verge and Reuters, have reported that OpenAI plans to build the browser using Chromium, the open-source engine behind major browsers like Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.
The reports, citing three sources familiar with the project, also suggest that OpenAI intends to integrate its existing services into the browser. However, the company, led by CEO Sam Altman, has yet to officially confirm the development.
Industry analysts consider OpenAI’s move a potential challenge to Google, particularly as Chrome faces divestment following a federal antitrust ruling. The same reports indicate that both Perplexity and OpenAI have expressed interest in acquiring a browser to strengthen their position in the market.
If released, OpenAI’s browser is expected to emerge as a serious competitor to Chrome, Edge, and Opera.
