Ousmane Dembele Wins 2025 Ballon d'Or, Outshining Lamine Yamal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ousmane Dembele, the standout winger for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has been named the recipient of the 2025 Ballon d'Or. He secured the prestigious award for the world's best player, triumphing over Barcelona's rising star, Lamine Yamal.

Dembele's victory was widely anticipated following his stellar performance throughout the 2024-25 season. He contributed to 53 goals across all competitions and helped his team achieve a historic treble, winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League. His exceptional play earned him the Champions League Player of the Season award, where he scored eight goals and provided six assists.

This award makes Dembele the second player in PSG's history to win the Ballon d'Or, following Lionel Messi's achievement. He is also the sixth Frenchman to claim the honor, joining an illustrious list that includes Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Zinedine Zidane, and Karim Benzema.

Dembele's Reaction and Other Awards

Speaking about his achievement, Dembele expressed profound gratitude. "I don't have many words. Look, it’s not easy. It is one of the best things I have accomplished in my career," he said after accepting the trophy, as reported by Give Me Sport from TNT Sports.

Dembele dedicated his award to everyone who has supported him throughout his journey. "To all the team and the club, it’s really an incredible family. You have been amazing since the first day. The president, since the first contact, has been exceptional with me. I want to also thank all the staff at PSG, my coach Luis Enrique has been amazing with me and has been the most important of my career."

"My teammates have been amazing in 2024 and 2025, they have been with me in the bad moments. It is not an individual trophy; it is for us all to win this," he added

Meanwhile, Yamal finished second in the voting for the Ballon d'Or, which is presented annually by France Football magazine.

Another PSG player, Vitinha, rounded out the top three. Mohamed Salah secured the fourth spot, followed by Raphinha in fifth. Chelsea's Cole Palmer finished eighth, just behind Kylian Mbappé.

Despite missing out on the main prize, Lamine Yamal did take home the Kopa Trophy for the world's best young player. In other categories, Aitana Bonmatí won the Women's Ballon d'Or for the third consecutive year.

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique, who led PSG to three titles, was named the Best Male Coach, and England national team duo Hannah Hampton and Sarina Wiegman were recognized as the Best Female Goalkeeper and Best Female Coach, respectively.
