TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that several regions in Indonesia were hit by floods over the past two days. The Center for Operation Control (Pusdalops) report shows that hydrometeorological disasters occurred in Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, and Java.
The Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, explained that heavy rainfall in South Sumatra since Friday, January 9, 2026, has caused flash floods in East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The uniform heavy rain in the area has submerged 23 villages, including Belitang III, Belitang II, Semendawai Suku III, and Belitang Mulya districts.
Abdul stated that the initial water level reached 150 centimeters at the onset of the incident. "Several villages in each district experienced varying degrees of inundation, ranging from residential yards to inside the buildings," he said in an official statement on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Based on preliminary data, the flood has affected around 1,359 households. Abdul mentioned that thousands of residents had to face the inundation of their houses, with an estimated 1,359 impacted residential units. Consequently, several residents had to evacuate. "As of now, there are no reported casualties, however, the material losses are considerable due to the submersion of houses and residents' belongings," Abdul stated.
On the same day, heavy rainfall causing river water overflow resulted in floods in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. The river overflow inundated residents' houses along the riverbanks. Based on the preliminary assessment, the floods affected about 251 households, with 206 families in Taman Baru Village and 45 families in Pesisir Mas Village.
Shifting to Borneo, the flood disaster affected 8 sub-districts encompassing 23 villages. Several inundated areas include the sub-districts of Banyuke Hulu, Air Besar, Jelimpo, Menyuke, Mempawah Hulu, Kuala Behe, Menjalin, and Meranti.
Abdul stated that the flood had damaged 2,282 residential units and impacted thousands of families in the same number. "Several villages experienced significant impacts, especially those in low-lying areas and along the riverbanks," he added.
Subsequently, during the same period, flooding occurred in Bengkulu. The flood took place in Seluma Regency, triggered by high rainfall resulting in a significant increase in water discharge in the drainage channel.
The disaster affected the North Seluma District, specifically in Lubuk Resam Village. The water in this area inundated several residential houses and surrounding agricultural land. "The community's activities were briefly disrupted due to the inundation entering the residential areas," Abdul mentioned.
Meanwhile, the flooding in Central Java showed more severe impacts. A total of 4,668 houses in Kudus Regency were submerged over the past two days. Additionally, about 65 roads were inundated, several bridges were disrupted, and approximately 120.8 hectares of paddy fields were affected.
Still in Central Java, extreme weather struck Kendal Regency on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Abdul stated that the extreme weather conditions resulted in several areas in the Rowosari Sub-district being affected. Several buildings and trees collapsed due to strong winds. Abdul mentioned that currently, Central Java is on high alert for floods, landslides, and tornadoes.
Lastly, in Jambi Province, flooding occurred in East Tanjung Jabung Regency since Saturday night. This incident was triggered by heavy rainfall exacerbated by clogged ditch channels. The water that was not accommodated by the drainage system caused several residential areas to be inundated. The local BPBD is still in the process of assessing the impact of this flood.
Abdul confirmed that there were no casualties in the series of floods in several regions over the past two days. He added that BNPB urged the public, especially those in flood-prone and extreme weather areas, to remain vigilant against potential subsequent disasters.
He urged the public to continue monitoring weather information and early warnings from local governments and BNPB, maintain the cleanliness of waterways and drainage, and promptly report to local authorities in the event of emergency conditions.
