Patrick Kluivert Talks About Ole Romeny's Replacement in World Cup Qualifiers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Team coach Patrick Kluivert has yet to receive positive news regarding Ole Romeny's recovery from the injury as they prepare for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone. He has only heard that his player is still undergoing treatment. "Everyone knows that he broke his leg," he said after the National Coaches Conference 2025 at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Jakarta, on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Patrick expressed deep disappointment with the injury that befell Ole Romeny. However, an injury is something no football player ever wants. "Of course, it's not fair, but that's football. Nobody wants this to happen to Ole. Unfortunately, this is a fact that has occurred, and we need to adapt," he said.

Ole Romeny is still doubtful to appear in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone. The fourth round will be held in Saudi Arabia and Qatar from October 8 to 14, 2025. The Indonesian national team is in group B alongside Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The Garuda squad will face Saudi Arabia on October 8, 2025. The match against Iraq is scheduled for October 11. The final duel between Saudi Arabia and Iraq will take place on October 14, 2025.

Currently, Ole Romeny has undergone surgery on his right leg in the Netherlands, after sustaining an injury to his leg while playing for Oxford United in the group stage match of the 2025 President's Cup. The 25-year-old forward suffered a broken bone after a harsh tackle from Arema FC's player, Paulinho Moccelin.

Patrick Kluivert admits that he has not yet appointed a replacement for Ole Romeny's position. Although he still hopes that Ole can recover in time, he has to consider alternative players who are qualified to fill the position as a national team striker. "We need to see who will fill Ole's position," said Patrick.

Patrick also does not yet know how to find a replacement for Ole Romeny as a striker. He is well aware of the crucial position the player holds for the Garuda squad. "It's too early to say who will replace Ole," he said. "We also have many players who can play in that position, I don't think who will be replaced."
