Police Clarify Guard's Repeated Visits to Room of Diplomat Found Dead in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death of Indonesian Foreign Ministry diplomat Arya Daru Pangayunan remains a mystery. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have revealed new facts in the investigation.

Head of the Public Information Sub-Division of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Ronald Simanjuntak, said that the diplomat's wife had called the boarding house's guard three times. "Three times the victim's wife contacted the boarding house's guard to check on the victim's room," said Ronald on Monday, July 14, 2025.

The victim's wife first called the boarding house's guard the day before the victim was found dead, precisely on Monday night, July 7, 2025, at around 10:40 p.m. However, at that time, the phone number she called turned out to be inactive.

Knowing that the number she had called was inactive, the victim's wife then tried to contact the new phone number belonging to the boarding house's guard on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 00:48 a.m. "The number was active. Then she asked for help (from the boarding house's guard) to check on the victim's room," Ronald said.

Arya Daru's wife contacted the boarding house's guard again on July 8, 2025, at 05:27 a.m. to ask for help in checking her husband's room. "That's why the apartment guard repeatedly checked the condition of the victim's room," Ronald told reporters.

Reonald admits that he does not yet know how long Arya Daru had been missing before his wife tried to contact the boarding house's guard to ask to check on her husband's condition. "We will check later," said Ronald.

Previously, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metro Police, Ade Ary Syam Indradi, revealed that the victim's cell phone died when his wife called. "His wife asked the apartment guard to check because her husband's phone was dead," said Ary in a written statement on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Foreign Ministry Diplomat Arya Daru was found dead on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, at around 08:00 a.m. His body was found with his head wrapped in duct tape and his body covered with a blanket in room number 105 at the Gondia Guest House, Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Arya Daru's body was buried at the Public Cemetery (TPU), Sunten Cemetery, Banguntapan, Bantul, on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2025.
