TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has declared Indonesia’s readiness to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza, Palestine, should the United Nations request such a contribution.
Prabowo made the statement during his address at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestine Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Reaffirming Indonesia’s long-standing commitment, Prabowo stressed that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East.
He underscored that halting the war in Gaza must be the top priority of the international community, condemning all forms of violence against civilians and the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
“We are ready to take part in this journey toward world peace. We are willing to provide peacekeeping forces,” Prabowo said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube broadcast.
The Indonesian leader also praised recent moves by several countries, including France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, that have recognized Palestinian statehood.
“The recognition of the State of Palestine is a step in the right direction in the true historical sense. To those who have not acted, we say that history does not stop,” he said.
Prabowo went further, vowing that Indonesia would extend diplomatic recognition to Israel once Israel officially recognizes Palestinian independence
He even pledged to support guarantees for Israel’s security after the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“Once Israel recognizes the independence and statehood of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel, and we will support all guarantees for Israel’s security,” he asserted.
The conference, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, served as an international platform to strengthen global commitment to the two-state solution and rally broader support for peace. Indonesia participated as one of the core members overseeing the process.
The opening session featured speeches from French President Emmanuel Macron, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, 80th President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who addressed the forum via video link from Palestine.
