TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said the ceremonial handover of Rp10.27 trillion (US$620 million) in administrative fines related to forest areas was intended to demonstrate tangible results of law enforcement efforts to the public.
Speaking at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Prabowo said the event — which featured stacks of cash displayed during the ceremony — should not be viewed merely as symbolic.
“Events like this should not be seen as just a ceremony or a show. In my view, and in the view of the Indonesian people, our people want to see real evidence,” Prabowo said in his speech.
The president said he understood the public’s desire to witness concrete proof of state enforcement actions. Prabowo, who also chairs the Gerindra Party, said he was pleased to personally witness the physical handover of the funds.
“I am happy to continue being invited to events like this. Every invitation, I see Rp10 trillion physically displayed,” he said.
According to Prabowo, similar handover ceremonies have been held at least four times during his administration, with the total amount transferred reaching around Rp40 trillion.
During Wednesday’s event, the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force, known locally as the PKH Task Force, handed over administrative forestry fines totaling Rp10.279 trillion.
The funds were symbolically transferred by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
The ceremony also included the handover of 2.37 million hectares of forest area land confiscated through PKH Task Force enforcement operations. The land was transferred from the Attorney General’s Office to the Finance Ministry before being symbolically handed over to Rosan Roeslani, head of Indonesia’s sovereign investment agency BPI Danantara, and state-owned plantation company PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara.
Attorney General Burhanuddin said the stacks of cash displayed during the event symbolized the recovery of state assets from the forestry and natural resources sectors.
“The stacks of money displayed here are not merely ceremonial props, but tangible proof of the PKH Task Force’s performance,” he said.
Prabowo attended a similar event at the Attorney General’s Office on April 10, 2026, when the PKH Task Force handed over Rp11.4 trillion to the state treasury. Like Wednesday’s ceremony, large stacks of cash were displayed behind the podium during the president’s speech.
