Prabowo Performs Umrah Amid State Visit to Saudi Arabia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto performed the Umrah pilgrimage in the holy city of Mecca in the early hours of Wednesday, July 3, 2025, as part of his state visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Indonesian pilgrims welcomed Prabowo upon his arrival at the courtyard of the Masjidil Haram, where the former military general greeted them by waving his hand.

Prabowo then entered the Ka'bah and performed sunnah prayers. The Palace's statement described this as a rare opportunity, reflecting "the close relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom's respect for the Head of State of Indonesia."

After leaving the Ka'bah, Prabowo performed the sunnah of kissing the Black Stone (Hajar Aswad) before proceeding with the tawaf around the Ka'bah. The Umrah pilgrimage, performed by the Chair of the Gerindra Party, continued with the sa'i from the Hill of Safa to Marwah, concluding with tahalul as a sign of the completion of the Umrah rituals.

Accompanying Prabowo during the pilgrimage were Agriculture Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Head of the Hajj Organizing Board (BPH) M. Irfan Yusuf.

Earlier, on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, or MBS, at the Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. The two leaders agreed on several cooperation initiatives in the fields of economy, investment, and energy.

These agreements and memoranda of understanding between Indonesian and Saudi Arabian business entities totaled approximately US$27 billion, or Rp437.2 trillion. The agreements specifically cover areas such as clean energy, petrochemical industries, and aviation fuel services.
