TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia will recognize the State of Israel, on the condition that Israel first acknowledges the independence and sovereignty of Palestine.

Prabowo delivered the statement during his address at the International High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held alongside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Monday, September 22, 2025.

His speech was broadcast through the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube channel.

The president underscored that Indonesia’s stance is not only about recognition but also about ensuring regional stability.

“We must guarantee statehood for Palestine, but Indonesia also declares that once Israel recognizes the independence and statehood of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel, and we will support all guarantees for Israel’s security,” he said.

Prabowo stressed that the international community bears a historical responsibility not just for Palestine’s future, but also for Israel’s security and the credibility of the United Nations.

He reiterated that Indonesia consistently supports the two-state solution as the only viable path toward lasting peace in the Middle East.

“Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to the two-state solution to the Palestinian issue. Only this two-state solution will bring peace,” he said.

The president also welcomed steps by several major powers, including France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, that have formally recognized Palestine.

The recognition of the Palestinian state is the right step on the correct side of history. For those who have not acted, we say that history does not stop,” Prabowo declared.

On the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Prabowo urged that halting the war must be the international community’s top priority. He added that Indonesia is ready to play an active role, including deploying peacekeeping forces under a UN mandate.

“We are ready to take part in this journey toward world peace. We are willing to provide peacekeeping forces,” he stated.

The high-level conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, was one of the key forums for rallying global commitment to the two-state solution. Indonesia joined as one of the core members overseeing the peace process.

The event opened with speeches by French President Emmanuel Macron, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, 80th UNGA President Annalena Baerbock, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who addressed the forum via video link from Palestine.
