Prabowo Seen Inspecting West Kalimantan Forest Fire Site

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday inspected a forest and land fire site in Limbung Village, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, where smoke still hung over the area and firefighters were working to put out remaining flames, as reported by Antara.

Footage released through the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube livestream showed Prabowo walking through the affected area and inspecting several spots where fires had been extinguished. He also spoke briefly with firefighters about the ongoing response.

The visit followed a meeting Prabowo chaired earlier in the day with central and local government officials to assess the latest situation and coordinate the response to forest and land fires in West Kalimantan.

During the meeting, Prabowo asked officials to provide a picture of the fires based on actual conditions on the ground.

“I came to see the actual situation here. Now I want someone to give me a presentation on the situation,” Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara.

In response, Asrianus Bulo, an adviser to the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), presented satellite monitoring data showing 198 hotspots with high confidence across West Kalimantan over the previous 24 hours.

Another 3,100 hotspots were classified as medium confidence and 406 as low confidence.

The meeting brought together eight central government ministry and agency heads and 10 local government officials, including the governor, provincial police chief and military commander, as well as representatives from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) and regional disaster management agencies.

Prabowo urged authorities to respond quickly and coordinate their efforts based on conditions on the ground.

He also called on local governments to enforce regulations in their respective areas and strengthen prevention efforts to reduce the risk of recurring forest and land fires.

Prabowo was accompanied during the visit by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
