TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - KAI Commuter reported a change in the surge of Commuter Line (KRL) passengers during Ramadan. Karina Amanda, the Vice President Corporate Secretary of state-owned KRL operator, said that the passengers are traveling earlier in the morning and returning home earlier in the evening.

In the morning during Ramadan, density begins to increase from 5:00 a.m. and reaches its peak between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. "The distribution of users is different from the period before Ramadan, which usually starts to increase from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.," said Karina in a written statement on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

According to her, a change in passenger distribution also occurs in the afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Passenger numbers increase again starting at 7:00 p.m. as users travel after breaking their fast.

The number of users rises at several stations during morning departures. Rangkasbitung Station increased by 28 percent, or about 1,500 to 1,600 people, starting from 4:00 a.m. "Meanwhile, from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., there was an increase at Bekasi Station of 50-64 percent, equivalent to 5,000 to 8,000 people," said Karina.

KAI Commuter noted that daily volume during Ramadan remains relatively stable at over 1 million users. The density becomes more concentrated at certain times, such as during the iftar period.

The management encourages all users to plan their trips effectively by adjusting to available schedules and always following the directions of officers.

"All users are also encouraged to always respect others by maintaining cleanliness and mutual comfort during iftar on the train," said Karina.
