TEMPO.CO, Batam - The Riau Islands Provincial Tourism Office says it's committed to reaching its 2025 tourist arrival target of 5.9 million, with potential turnover reaching Rp17 trillion.
The Head of the Riau Islands Tourism Office, Hasan, said the target, laid out by the Ministry of Tourism, is grouped into two categories: foreign tourists with 2.4 million arrivals and domestic tourists with 3.5 million visits.
But the ministry target, Hasan admitted, is comparably higher than the target under Riau Islands' key performance indicators laid out in its Medium-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD) for 2025. The medium-term plan targets 1.7 foreign arrivals and 2.2 domestic tourists in the region.
"In the short term, we are striving to achieve the targets under the RPJMD," said Hasan in his written statement, Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) previously revealed that foreign tourists visiting the province, nicknamed "the pepper-sprinkled land," are predominantly tourists of Singaporean nationality.
Tourist Spending
The potential turnover if the tourism targets are met is Rp17 trillion, with each foreign tourist estimated to spend about US$296 or Rp4.8 million, per day. Meanwhile, domestic tourists are estimated to spend Rp2.2 million per person with the same length of stay.
"Tourist spendings are calculated from the moment they set foot at the arrival gate until they return to their home country or region," said Hasan.
Tourist expenditures include accommodation, meals and drinks, local transport costs, souvenir shopping, service fees, and other transactions while tourists are in the Riau Islands.
The Ministry of Tourism targets 14.6 million to 16 million foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia this year.
