TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The live-action God of War series on Prime Video, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, has finally found its lead actor. Ryan Hurst has been cast to star in the series, adapted from the popular PlayStation video game franchise of the same name. In the series, Ryan will play Kratos, the main character in all ten video games in the franchise.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Kratos is depicted as a Spartan warrior who trades his soul to Ares in exchange for victory in battle. Ryan Hurst's involvement in this project marks his return to the God of War franchise universe. He previously voiced Thor in the video game God of War: Ragnarok.
Ronald D. Moore of Outlander and Battlestar Galactica has also joined the God of War series project and serves as showrunner. The series is planned for two seasons, and casting and pre-production are currently underway. Frederick E.O. Toye will reportedly direct the first two episodes.
God of War Series Storyline
According to Deadline, the God of War series will follow the story of Kratos and his ten-year-old son, Atreus. They embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. This adventure also serves as a medium for Kratos to teach his son to become a better god. Meanwhile, Atreus tries to teach his father to be a better man.
Kratos, the main character of the entire franchise, was born in Sparta and possesses god-like qualities. Throughout the ten games, Kratos is depicted as having conquered various creatures, even gods. He has become an iconic character known in popular culture for his stoicism, unmatched fighting skills, and tragic past.
In this God of War installment, Kratos' story will closely follow the arc of the previous two games. The father-son dynamic is a new landmark in the legendary God of War series and will form the core of the series.
Ryan Hurst's Track Record
As reported by Variety, Ryan Hurst is best known for his role as Opie in the successful FX biker drama, Sons of Anarchy. He also played the villain Beta in AMC's The Walking Dead.
In the film industry, Ryan has starred in several films, including Remember the Titans, Saving Private Ryan, and We Were Soldiers. He will also appear on the big screen in the film adaptation of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan.
