CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta - The final round of the FIFA 2026 World Cup has taken place, with Spain emerging as the champions after a 1-0 victory against Argentina. This marks their second victory since 2010. Additionally, for the first time in 96 years of the tournament's history, FIFA held a Halftime Show during the final match at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on Sunday, July 19, 2026, local time.
This move signifies a significant shift in the tradition of the World Cup, which usually utilizes the 15-minute halftime break only for tactical analysis and player rest. The 11-minute show was curated directly by Coldplay's vocalist, Chris Martin, in collaboration with the international organization Global Citizen.
Generational Collaboration On Stage
A lineup of global stars from various eras and genres was united on one stage. Pop legend Madonna, Latin diva Shakira, pop megastar Justin Bieber, and the phenomenal South Korean group, BTS, served as the main co-headliners alongside Coldplay.
The show opened with high energy, blending dynamic musical arrangements and iconic hits from each performer. Nigerian musician Burna Boy also joined the stage to perform his collaboration with Shakira titled "Dai Dai".
Kemeriahan paruh waktu ini ditutup dengan megah lewat iringan konduktor ternama asal Venezuela, Gustavo Dudamel, bersama New York Philharmonic dan paduan suara PS22 Chorus.
The halftime festivities were concluded grandly with a performance featuring renowned Venezuelan conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, alongside the New York Philharmonic and the PS22 Chorus.
During the closing session, there was a collaborative performance by singers Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger, and Laura Pausini. Content creator and rapper IShowSpeed also added to the grandeur of the closing of the 2026 World Cup.
Social Mission Behind the Grand Stage
Beyond entertainment and sports, FIFA and Global Citizen emphasized that this large-scale project embodies a humanitarian mission. The entire event series was dedicated to supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The global campaign aims to raise a total of USD 100 million (approximately Rp1.6 trillion). The collected funds will be allocated to expand access to quality education and provide football facilities for children across the globe.
Prior to this, a similar concept was tested on a smaller scale at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final. The success of this trial ultimately convinced FIFA to bring the Super Bowl-style entertainment atmosphere to the grandest stage of world football this year.
