Thailand Tops AFF Cup Group B, Philippines Keep Semifinal Hopes Alive

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Thai national team currently tops Group B of the 2026 AFF Cup after a 2-0 victory over Malaysia on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the Philippines maintained their hopes of qualifying for the semifinals after defeating Laos 4-1.

The victory over Malaysia gave Thailand six points from two matches. The War Elephants top the standings thanks to their best goal difference of +7, maintaining their perfect record with two consecutive wins.

Despite losing to Thailand, Malaysia remains in second place with six points from three matches. The Malayan Tigers remain in the semifinals but have played one more match than Thailand.

The race for the two semifinal spots remains wide open. Myanmar sits in third place with three points from two matches and a goal difference of +2.

The Philippines moved up to fourth after securing their first win of the tournament. The Azkals defeated Laos 4-1 despite falling behind early.

This result gives the Philippines three points from two matches with a neutral goal difference (0), keeping them in contention for a place in the top two.

At the bottom of the standings, Laos is certain to sink even further. Their crushing defeat to the Philippines marked their third consecutive loss in Group B. Laos have yet to score a single point and have a goal difference of -12.

With Thailand and Malaysia both on six points, the race in Group B is sure to remain fierce.

Myanmar and the Philippines, both with two matches remaining, still have a chance to secure a place in the semifinals, while Laos is on the verge of elimination from the tournament.
