7 High-Profile Narcotics Busts by Indonesian Police This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police announced that they have seized a total of 197.71 tons of narcotics from 38,934 cases handled between January and October 2025.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of the Drug and Crime, Special Crime Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) at the National Police Headquarters, said that 111 major cases were uncovered, resulting in the arrest of 172 suspects.

“The total evidence seized by Bareskrim’s Directorate of Drug and Crime amounted to 182.3 tons,” Eko said during a press conference on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

He added that seven of the year’s major narcotics cases were handled directly by the National Police Headquarters, with most occurring in Aceh Province.

Here are 7 major narcotics cases in 2025 handled by the Directorate of Drug and Crime, Special Crime Investigation Unit, Indonesian National Police:

1. Lhokseumawe, Aceh – February 7–8

• Drugs seized: 135 kg methamphetamine

• Suspects arrested: 4

• Details: The operation was carried out by the Directorate of Drug and Crime, Special Crime Investigation Unit, leading to the seizure of 135 kg of methamphetamine and the arrest of four suspects

2. Aceh Tamiang, Aceh – February 25

• Drugs seized: 188 kg methamphetamine

• Suspects arrested: 1

• Details: Police intercepted the distribution of methamphetamine in Aceh Tamiang. One suspect was arrested during the operation.

3. Bireuen, Aceh – April 8

• Drugs seized: 192 kg methamphetamine

• Suspects arrested: 1

• Details: Officers discovered a large methamphetamine shipment in Bireuen, detaining one suspect.

4. Langsa, Aceh – May 4–5

• Drugs seized: 99 kg methamphetamine

• Suspects arrested: 1

• Details: A narcotics operation in Langsa led to the seizure of nearly 100 kilograms of methamphetamine and the arrest of one suspect.

5. Central Lampung, Lampung – June 4

• Drugs seized: 248 kg marijuana

• Suspects arrested: 2

• Details: Police uncovered a marijuana distribution network in Central Lampung, detaining two suspects.

6. Blang Meurandeh & Kuta Teungoh, Aceh – June 22

• Drugs seized: 25-hectare marijuana plantation (~180 tons)

• Suspects arrested: 2

• Details: Officers found a massive marijuana plantation covering 25 hectares in Aceh. The plantation was estimated to contain 180 tons of marijuana, with two suspects arrested.

7. East Aceh – October 5

• Drugs seized: 4.3 kg methamphetamine and 155,000 ecstasy pills

• Suspects arrested: 1

• Details: Police intercepted a drug distribution operation in East Aceh, confiscating methamphetamine and ecstasy pills and detaining one suspect.
