According to Forbes, Jeff Bezos' net worth is estimated to reach US$237 billion as of June 29, 2025. This makes him the fourth richest person in the world in 2025.

Bezos founded the e-commerce giant, Amazon, in his garage in Seattle, Washington, USA, in 1994. He stepped down as CEO to become the Executive Chairman in 2021.

Bezos owns 9 percent of Amazon's shares. He transferred a quarter of his 16 percent stake in the company to his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott Tuttle, whom he officially divorced in 2019 after 25 years of marriage.

Aside from founding Amazon, Bezos owns The Washington Post, and Blue Origin, an aerospace company developing rockets. He once flew to outer space using one of his rockets in July 2021.

According to Britannica, Jeff Bezos was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, on January 12, 1964. While in high school, he developed the Dream Institute, a program promoting creative thinking for young students.

After graduating in 1986 with summa cum laude from Princeton University with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, Bezos held a series of jobs before joining D.E. Shaw & Co in 1990. He was appointed as a senior vice president at the company, tasked with examining investment opportunities via the internet.

The use of the internet, which grew more than 2,000 percent per year, prompted Bezos to venture into entrepreneurship. In 1994, he and MacKenzie left D.E. Shaw & Co and moved to Seattle to open a virtual bookstore.

Working in a garage with a few employees, Bezos and MacKenzie began developing software for their company. Named after a river in South America, Amazon started selling its first books in July 1995.

Besides Amazon, Bezos founded a spaceflight company, Blue Origin. In 2000, Blue Origin purchased a rocket launch site in Texas and soon introduced a manned suborbital spacecraft, New Shepard, in 2018, and an orbital launch vehicle, New Glenn, in 2020.
