Apple Debuts Foldable iPhone Duo: What Are the Features?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has officially debuted the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, powered by the 2nm A20 Pro chip and compatible with the Apple Pencil.

"iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original," said Apple CEO John Ternus in a press release posted on Apple's website on Thursday. Here's everything to know about the new Apple product:

Compatible with Apple Pencil

Dubbed Apple's "thinnest iPhone ever," with 7.6 inch inner display when unfolded, which uses special nano-texture glass to minimize glare and bend marks.

On the outside, there's a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display that covers 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro's screen area.

This display supports ProMotion, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. With its large display, the iPhone Duo is also the first iPhone to support the Apple Pencil (USB-C).

How durable is the iPhone Duo?

To enhance durability, Apple equipped the iPhone Duo with Grade 5 Titanium and a Ceramic Shield 2 coating on the front, which is three times more scratch-resistant, as well as Ceramic Shield on the back.

This durability is supported by a precision hinge consisting of more than 100 components, an internal support architecture, and IP68 water and dust resistance certification.

Under the hood, the foldable phone is powered by a 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, combining a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and a 16-core Dual Neural Engine for on-device AI processing.

Sustained performance is increased by up to 35 percent thanks to a thermal management system that connects the chip directly to a dedicated vapor chamber.

What about the camera?

For photography, the foldable phone is equipped with a 48MP Fusion main camera capable of 2x optical telephoto zoom and 4K 120fps Dolby Vision video recording, as well as a 48MP Fusion ultra-wide camera for macro photography.

The foldable design enables various new features, such as AI-based Smart Take for automatic shooting, Duo Preview for previewing on the outer screen, Kid Cue showing animated Peanuts characters to engage children while taking photos, and selfie support using the main camera.

The newly designed FaceTime camera is embedded under the display panel, providing a seamless and clean look.

Only supports eSIM

Supporting all the performance of the foldable phone, Apple has equipped it with the redesigned iOS 27 operating system.

The iPhone Duo includes side navigation adjustments, vertical Dynamic Island integration, and Split View capability for running two apps side by side.

The Standby feature can now be activated on both the inner and outer screens, even without the need for charging.

In terms of power, this device uses a dual battery system that supports fast charging up to 50 percent in about 20 minutes with a 60W cable or 30 minutes wirelessly (MagSafe/Qi2).

The iPhone Duo only supports eSIM, and this applies globally. It also features an N1 wireless chip (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6) and a C2 modem to improve connectivity range.

What's the price range?

The iPhone Duo is available in Star White and Night Sky colors with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB.

Apple's first foldable phone is offered starting at US$1,999 (approximately Rp35 million) and up to US$3,199 (approximately Rp56 million). Apple launched the phone on October 16 in the US market.
