Apple Foldable iPhone Hinted in iOS 27 Beta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has dropped a fresh hint pointing toward the potential arrival of a foldable iPhone through its iOS 27 beta build. Code uncovered within the update indicates that the rumored device, dubbed the "iPhone Ultra," will utilize two separate batteries.

According to a report by Gizmochina, the clue surfaced inside the Battery Health menu within the Settings application. Apple has shifted to using the plural term "batteries," replacing the singular "battery" designation that has consistently appeared across all previous iPhone models.

Among the newly added text strings are, "The batteries in this iPhone are performing as expected," "The health of the batteries in this iPhone has significantly degraded," alongside a warning concerning "one of the batteries" not being a genuine Apple component.

The adjusted terminology suggests that Apple is laying the software groundwork for devices housing dual battery cells. This hardware setup is widely adopted in foldable smartphones to accommodate the hinge assembly while maintaining balanced weight distribution across the chassis.

According to supply chain leaks from Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Ultra will reportedly pair two battery cells with capacities of 1,921 mAh and 2,962 mAh, yielding a combined total capacity of 4,883 mAh. While this figure falls short of earlier speculation suggesting a 5,400–5,800 mAh range, it remains slightly larger than the 4,800 mAh cell powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 (Wide).

In addition to the battery setup, rumors indicate that the iPhone Ultra will sport a 7.76-inch foldable main display alongside a 5.49-inch cover screen. The device is expected to pack a 48-megapixel primary camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, though it may forego a dedicated telephoto lens to navigate internal space constraints.

The discovery of dual-battery references aligns with earlier iOS 27 code leaks that revealed support for various folding angles, dual-screen setups, and tailored multitasking features for flexible displays. Apple is reportedly advancing toward mass production after overcoming hinge durability challenges, with the iPhone Ultra rumored to launch this September priced between US$2,000 and US$2,500, exceeding Rp35 million.
