TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Apple Music plans to introduce a "Made With AI" tag later this year to identify songs on its streaming platform created using generative artificial intelligence technology.

According to a note sent to industry partners and viewed by Variety, Apple Music will mandate that record labels and distributors tag tracks where a material portion of the content was produced using AI tools.

This move expands on the platform's initial AI Transparency Tagging system launched in March 2026, which allowed distributors to flag AI use within Apple's internal metadata.

"As we implement Made With AI Labels, content providers will be important partners. They are best positioned to know how their content was created, and the AI Transparency Tags that should be used," Apple Music stated in the partner memo.

The exact launch date for public display remains unspecified. However, the policy shift marks a transition from voluntary reporting to formal requirements, as reported by Engadget. Previously, the identification of AI-generated tracks relied largely on individual distributor preferences, leaving much of the uploaded content untagged.

The music industry has faced growing pressure to address the rapid influx of AI-generated music. Major streaming services have adopted varying strategies to tackle synthetic tracks, ranging from strict licensing and copyright lawsuits to royalty bans.

Variety noted that Spotify recently began marking synthetic artist profiles as "AI Personas," while Tidal moved to ban fully AI-generated tracks from collecting royalty payouts.

Additionally, global industry groups including the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and SAG-AFTRA have jointly campaigned for standardized labeling across all digital platforms.

Apple Music Vice President Oliver Schusser previously revealed to Billboard that over a third of daily track uploads to the platform were entirely generated by AI. Schusser emphasized that while Apple maintains internal screening software to detect AI models, uploaders must take primary responsibility for transparency.

"You should know that every label in the world is delivering AI, even if they might not know about it. They themselves also need to develop tools to understand the scope of AI use," Schusser said.
