Brazil's President Condemns Israeli Atrocities in Gaza, Joins Indonesia's Call for Two-State Solution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva condemned Israel's atrocity against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The president conveyed this in a joint statement with his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto at the Planalto Palace, Brasilia, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

"Our country also consistently condemns the atrocities committed against the Palestinians in Gaza. We are never afraid to point out the hypocrisy of those who remain silent about the most egregious violations in our time," said Lula, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.

According to Lula, recognizing the state of Palestine and allowing it to become a member of the United Nations is a vital step to create the necessary balance to achieve a Two-State Solution.

At the same time, President Prabowo appreciated Lula's firm stance on the suffering of the Palestinian people and the ceasefire in Gaza. He also appreciated Brazil's agreement on the Two-State Solution.

"We really value your strong stance on the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza," said Prabowo.

Lula da Silva also commended Indonesia's role in promoting a fair world order. He mentioned Indonesia as a long-standing friend that has played a significant role in the history of the struggle of developing countries to realize a fairer and more equal world order.

According to Lula, Indonesia has had a historical role in upholding the spirit of the global South's struggle since the Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955.

"Seventy years ago, at the Bandung Conference, Indonesia raised the banner of struggle for a fairer international order," said Lula.

President Lula also appreciated President Prabowo's firm stance at the 2025 BRICS Summit, which criticized the use of force in international relations and emphasized the importance of upholding international law. He stated that Indonesia and Brazil have an important voice in supporting world peace.

"Like Brazil, Indonesia has always stated that dialogue is the only way to end the war in Ukraine. I am grateful to President Prabowo for Indonesia's participation in the Friend of Peace group proposed by China and Brazil," he said.
