BTS' Suga Invests $70 Million in MLB Team Oakland Athletics

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BTS member Suga has officially joined an investment group that will support the relocation of the Major League Baseball (MLB) team, The Athletics, following their move from Oakland to Las Vegas. Suga and former MLB pitcher Chan Ho Park invested $70 million to help the team move and finance the construction of a $1.75 billion stadium.

BTS' Suga Familiar with Sports in the U.S.

"Suga is no stranger to North American sports, being named an NBA Ambassador in 2023," wrote iHeartRadio on Saturday, July 5, 2025. From then on, the 32-year-old rapper has frequently attended several games and interacted with members of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors.

Last season, The Athletics bid farewell to their old home in Oakland and welcomed their new temporary home in Sacramento, where they will play until the Vegas stadium is ready. However, there is speculation that the stadium may not open until the 2028 season, which is the target date.

Led by standout newcomers Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz, while the Athletics continue to perform well on the field, the head office is preparing to move to the new stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. "BTS member Suga and former Major League Baseball pitcher Chan Ho Park are investing in the Athletics, formerly the Oakland Athletics. The A’s are raising cash for the team’s move to Las Vegas, and want to grown a global fanbase," said sports and culture writer Joon Lee, quoted from PFSN.

Park will be one of the investors in the private equity fund, along with several prominent figures. They include Suga, Mike Joo, Chief Operating Officer of the investment banking division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Yi Man Deuk, honorary chairman of Samchully Group, and others.

Differences Between Suga and Chan Ho Park

Suga only has a relationship with professional baseball as a fan. But unlike Park, who has a much deeper connection with this American hobby. Park became the first Korean descendant athlete to play in Major League Baseball when he made his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994.

Therefore, the investment from Suga and Park is not just financial support. It signifies The Athletics' commitment to build a global fan base as they prepare for their debut in Las Vegas. With the increasing popularity of Korean baseball and BTS' influence worldwide, this partnership can help the team reach a new audience while appreciating the international connection of the sport.

Meanwhile, one thing is for sure, the return of Suga's group, BTS. They announced that they are working on a new full album after military duties and are expected to be completed by 2026, followed by a world tour.
