TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social media users on Facebook [archive] and Instagram shared videos of fires in Saudi Arabia which they claimed were caused by Yemeni attacks.

The video shows black smoke billowing from the area engulfed in flames. "The city of Al-Baha in Saudi Arabia is still engulfed in flames after an attack by Yemen's Ansarullah this morning," wrote one account in Indonesian on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The footage circulated amidst heightened military tensions between Yemen's Houthi group and Saudi Arabia in mid-July 2026. Is it true that the video of the fire in Saudi Arabia was caused by a Yemeni attack?

Tempo's Fact Check Team verified the claims using Google reverse image search, geolocation, and credible media reports.

The conflict between the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government has escalated. On Monday, July 13, 2026, Yemen's internationally recognized government bombed the runway at Sanaa Airport to intercept Iranian aircraft. The Houthis retaliated by launching ballistic missiles into southern Saudi Arabia.

However, the video circulating is not related to the Middle East conflict.

The original video came from a YouTube account named Abdul Waheed and was uploaded on August 7, 2020. The video title states that the incident was a market fire in Ajman, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Arabic-language news portal, Aawsat, reported a market fire in the Ajman industrial area on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. The report noted that the fire was not the result of sabotage, but rather a fire that sparked among flammable goods.

Tempo's Fact Check team also checked the market's location using Google Street View. Similarities in the building's shape, windows, and roof confirmed that the video was filmed near a fruit and vegetable shop in the Al Waha shopping center in Ajman.
