List of 35 Sports Indonesia Will Compete in at Asian Games 2026

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia will send 432 athletes across 35 sports to compete at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, scheduled for September 19 to October 4, 2026.

The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) officially announced the size of the national contingent, although the names of individual athletes were not included in the announcement.

KOI Chairperson Raja Sapta Oktohari said all athletes selected for the Asian Games team had undergone a thorough selection and evaluation process involving the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), the NOC Indonesia Sports Commission, and national sports federations.

"Asian Games is not only a competition, but also a stage to show that Indonesian sports continue to grow and can compete with the best countries in Asia," Okto said in a written statement on Saturday, as quoted by Antara.

"All athletes who will depart have gone through maximum preparation and selection. Now is the time for them to compete with confidence, give their best performances, and bring pride to Indonesia," he added.

The Indonesian delegation will also include 148 coaches and officials, as well as 32 members of the Chef de Mission (CdM) team.

Indonesia to Compete in 35 Sports

According to Antara, the 35 sports Indonesia will participate in include archery, athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing/kayaking, rowing, cycling, esports, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karate, modern pentathlon, padel, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, squash, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, teqball, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and combat sports through mixed martial arts (MMA).

In the official Aichi-Nagoya 2026 program, combat sports will feature three disciplines: jiu-jitsu, kurash, and MMA. Indonesia will compete in the MMA discipline.

Compared with the 43 sports included in the official Asian Games program, Indonesia will not participate in baseball/softball, breaking, cricket, football, handball, kabaddi, rugby, and sailing.

The 20th edition of the Asian Games will feature 469 medal events across 43 sports and 71 disciplines, down from the 481 medal events held at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Several sports, including BMX freestyle, MMA, padel, surfing, teqball, and virtual taekwondo, will make their Asian Games debut in Aichi-Nagoya.

Three Sports Receive Independent Funding

Among the 35 sports, boxing, fencing, and table tennis will participate through independent funding provided by their respective federations and private partners.

Despite the different funding arrangements, the three sports will receive the same services and support as other members of the Indonesian delegation.

"Once they officially become part of Team Indonesia, their responsibility is the same: to deliver their best performance and fight for medals for Indonesia," Okto said.

The final composition of the delegation was determined after evaluation by the Kemenpora review team, the NOC Indonesia Sports Commission, and national sports federations. The assessment considered athletes' readiness, medal prospects, and technical requirements for each sport.

Preparation Continues Ahead of Asian Games

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said the selection process was carried out objectively and professionally to ensure that athletes representing Indonesia are fully prepared to compete at the Asian level.

"Kemenpora, NOC Indonesia, and all sports federations are committed to sending the best athletes with strong readiness and achievement potential. Every athlete included in the delegation has gone through a strict review process," Erick said, as quoted by Antara.

He encouraged athletes to maintain focus, uphold sportsmanship, and give their best performances for Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Team Indonesia Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu said preparations for the delegation were progressing as planned, covering travel arrangements, accommodation, competition operations, and athletes' return after the Games.

"All preparations are running according to plan. We continue intensive coordination with Kemenpora, NOC Indonesia, and national sports federations to ensure the departure, accommodation, competition operations, and return process run optimally," Todotua said.

He added that the CdM team would provide the best possible support so athletes could fully focus on pursuing achievements at Asia's largest multi-sport event.
