First Wave of Indonesian Pilgrims Returning Home After Hajj

1 day ago 10

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The first wave of Indonesian hajj pilgrims are returning home today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025. A total of seven groups will be heading to the homeland through two airports: King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah and Amir Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Airport (AMAA) in Medina.

"Four hajj clusters will embark from the Medina Airport, starting from 03:30 in the morning until 06:10 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, the other three groups will fly from Jeddah Airport between 04:00 p.m. and 09:00 p.m.," said Abdul Basir, the chief of Airport Area on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The groups that will be flown from Medina include cluster 01 from Makassar Embarkation (UPG 01), cluster 01 from Lombok Embarkation (LOP 01), cluster 01 from Pondok Gede Jakarta Embarkation (JKG 01), and cluster 02 from Makassar Embarkation (UPG 02).

Meanwhile, cluster 01 from Surabaya Embarkation (SUB 01), cluster 02 from Surabaya Embarkation (SUB 02), and cluster 01 from Jakarta Embarkation (JKS 01) will depart from Jeddah.

According to Abdul Basir, on the first day, a total of 2,764 pilgrims and hajj officials will leave the Holy Land. The repatriation of pilgrims will take place in two waves until July 12, 2025.

"The first wave of repatriation will take place from June 11 to 25, 2025, with a total of 266 clusters. Out of that number, 258 clusters will return via Jeddah Airport and eight clusters via Medina Airport," he said.

The second wave will start on June 26 and end on July 12, 2025. A total of 259 clusters will depart entirely from Medina. "We remind pilgrims not to forget to bring carry-on and passport bags in accordance with flight regulations. The maximum weight for carry-on bags is 7 kilograms, and only one carry-on bag and one passport bag are allowed," he said.

For the main luggage, Basir continued, the pilgrims' suitcases have been sent to the airport a day before their departure. There will be no re-weighing at the pavilion, except to check the neatness and suitability of the carry-on items.

"Upon departure, all pilgrims will go through regular immigration processes. They will enter the pavilion first, receive documents, undergo baggage checks, then enter the gate for immigration and X-ray checks before heading to the waiting area," he explained.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj stipulates that pilgrims can only enter the pavilion at the earliest six hours before the flight time. If they arrive earlier, the pilgrims are asked to wait inside the bus.

This repatriation phase will continue until July 12, 2025, with Medina airport being the final departure location.

"We will serve the departure until July 12. The total pilgrims to be repatriated are spread out in two waves, mostly from Jeddah, and the rest from Medina due to flight slot limitations," said Basir.
