Human Rights Minister Urges Investigation on Pig's Head Terror Against Papuan Students in Bali

1 day ago 10

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai has urged the police to investigate the alleged animal terror involving the delivery of rotten pig's head and soil to Papuan students in Denpasar, Bali. The Bali City Committee of the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) recounted that the incident took place on June 6, 2025.

"Law enforcers must promptly investigate this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable," said Pigai in an official statement on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Pigai stated that Papuan students also have the right to study without fear; therefore, the government is obliged to make sure no similar incident occurs in the future. "To maintain peaceful coexistence in our diverse society," he added.

According to Pigai, the case poses a serious threat to the fundamental rights of Papuan students. The terror clearly contradicts the respect for diversity in Indonesia.

"We at the Ministry of Human Rights will analyze the data obtained to formulate policy recommendations and further steps to tackle the problem," stated Natalius.

Previously, two AMP activists, Wemison Enembe and Yuberthinus Gobay, received packages containing pig's heads and soil at their residences in Denpasar, Bali.

The chronology is as follows: on Friday, June 6, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m. local time, two suspicious packages were delivered by two online motorcycle taxi drivers to two separate locations in Denpasar.

The first package, addressed to Wemison Enembe, was sent to his rented residence on Jl. Gang Welirang 1, West Denpasar.

Meanwhile, the second package, addressed to Yuberthinus Gobay, was received at the Papua House (ASPURA) on Jl. Tukad Yeh Aya Number 52, South Denpasar.

Both packages were seemingly containing a book titled 'Papua Bergerak,' which translates to 'Papua Moves' but it was soon discovered that the packages contained rotten pig's heads, a piece of bone, and black soil instead.

As a result of this incident, the AMP demanded that the police investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of the terror, and ensure the safety and security of Papuan students in Bali.

AMP referred to the incident as deliberate and planned terror to weaken the political mindset of critical Papua students.
