TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman is set to distribute 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine. The aid was symbolically handed over to Palestinian Agriculture Minister Basheer-Salimia at the Ministry of Agriculture office on Monday, July 7, 2025.
"Under the direction of President of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia is providing aid to Palestine in the form of 10,000 tons of rice," Amran said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives Commission IV at the Parliament Complex on Monday, July 7, 2025. The instruction came from Prabowo Subianto before the head of state departed for Brazil to attend the BRICS 2025 High-Level Meeting."
The distribution of the aid is part of the agreement of cooperation between the two countries. In the memorandum of understanding signed, Indonesia and Palestine also agreed to collaborate in various aspects of the agricultural sector, ranging from the development of agricultural products to strengthening capacities in various fields within the agricultural sector. Both will focus on seed industry, biotechnology, agribusiness management, agricultural tools and machinery, and food reserves.
Regarding the rice aid, Amran stated that its distribution will depend on Palestine's decision. "The aid will be sent depending on the Palestinian Ambassador in Indonesia. Whenever it can be sent, we will deliver the rice," Amran said.
In the bilateral meeting, Amran also initiated the establishment of the Palestinian-Indonesian Solidarity Investment Zone in the agricultural sector by allocating a land area of 10,000 to 15,000 hectares in South Sumatra. Amran hopes that the zone will become a long-term cooperation base to strengthen food security, drive rural development, and open mutually beneficial agricultural investment opportunities.
"Palestine has advantages in the horticultural sector. They have many experts in water management, drip irrigation, and modern agricultural technology that are very suitable for horticultural development," Amran said.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Agriculture Minister Basheer-Salimia stated that this collaboration is a strategic opportunity to strengthen food security in their country. "We have high hopes for this agreement, which comes at a time when the Palestinian agricultural sector is experiencing extraordinary conditions," he said.
