TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian men's volleyball team started the second round of the 2026 SEA V Cup with a victory over Cambodia. Playing at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, Wednesday night, July 22, 2026, the Garuda squad won three straight sets with scores of 26-24, 25-15, and 25-17.
Despite the victory, the national team coach, Reidel Toiran, assessed that his players' performance has not reached their best level. According to him, the players' physical condition has not fully recovered after the first round of the SEA V Cup in the Philippines. "Yes, actually this is in accordance with what we planned," Toiran said after the match.
The Cuban coach said fatigue still affects the performance of Farhan Halim and his teammates. As a result, Indonesia's performance in the first set was not optimal. "The players seemed to play with less freedom. They still hesitated in terms of physical condition. There were failed points, delays, or their hits were not optimal. That's because of the physical condition," he said.
Toiran added that fitness recovery is the main task for the team in the second round of the SEA V Cup. According to him, this tournament is also utilized as part of the preparation for the 2026 Asian Games. "From the first impression that we saw, the aspect that needs to be improved the most is the physical condition of the players. At the moment, their physical condition is still not optimal," Toiran said. "We are still looking for the best composition for the upcoming Asian Games. This is indeed a warm-up event."
The victory over Cambodia was achieved after Indonesia managed to overcome the tough resistance of the opponents in the first set before dominating the next two sets. Cambodia, who were the champions of the first round of the 2026 SEA V Cup, had difficulty anticipating the smashes from the Indonesian players, while their attacking efforts were often successfully blocked.
Indonesian national team captain Farhan Halim admitted that he and his teammates are not in their best condition. However, the players try to encourage each other to continue to play with confidence. "Yes, maybe just like what Coach Toiran said earlier, our physical condition is indeed not optimal. But we try to continuously push our respective abilities. Fortunately, in the end, we can achieve the desired results," said Farhan.
According to him, there were no significant changes in strategy after the first set. Indonesia just tried to play more freely in order to exert greater pressure on the opponents. "That's what made our game even better, so that we could lead by a considerable margin in the second and third sets," he said.
In this second round of the SEA V Cup, Toiran also called Luvi Febrian Nugraha to fill the outside hitter position, replacing Doni Haryono who is still recovering from a shoulder injury. Farhan assessed that Luvi's presence did not cause any issues in the team's cohesion because they have played together quite frequently.
"We have played together quite frequently, as with other players. We already understand his playing style," said Farhan. "We know his habits on the field and when to push or support his play. So, so far there have been no problems. Everything is going well."
