TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has arrested more than 700 people on charges of spying for Israel since the war began on June 13, 2025. Three of those arrested have been sentenced to death for espionage, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
According to Iranian intelligence and security forces quoted by the news agency, the arrests were made in provinces such as Kermanshah, Isfahan, Khuzestan, Fars, and Lorestan.
In addition to making arrests, Iran also executed three men charged with spying for Israel's intelligence agency Mossad at Urmia Prison in West Azerbaijan province on Wednesday.
The three men were said to be trying to import hardware into Iran under the guise of shipping alcohol to commit terror acts.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated on June 13, when Israel launched a massive operation against Iran, accusing it of carrying out a secret military nuclear program.
Tehran then retaliated by launching Operation True Promise III, which attacked military targets inside Israel.
On June 22, the U.S. bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, joining Israel in striking Iran.
Following the strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Tehran “must now agree to end this war” or face much more serious consequences.
With the threat, on Monday, Iran launched a missile strike on the U.S.-owned Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in response to the U.S. attack.
However, the attack had no significant impact, as all missiles except one were intercepted and no casualties were caused.
Later on Monday night, Trump said that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire.
On Tuesday, Trump said that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel came into effect.
