Iran Threatens to Strike U.S. Bases Across Middle East If Nuclear Talks Fail

1 day ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has threatened to attack U.S. military bases across the Middle East if nuclear talks fail and conflicts erupt with Washington. This was disclosed by Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, just days before the sixth round of Iran-US nuclear talks in Oman.

"Some American representatives are threatening that if negotiations fail, it could escalate into open conflict. While I remain hopeful for a successful diplomatic resolution, we are prepared for any scenario. If conflict is forced upon us, the enemy will face greater losses. In such a case, the United States would be compelled to withdraw from the region," Nasirzadeh said at a press conference as reported by Al Arabiya and Tass.

"All U.S. bases are within our reach and we will boldly target them in host countries."

The United States has a global network of about 1,000 military bases, with over 170,000 U.S. personnel stationed in more than 80 countries. The majority of American forces are stationed in Japan, Germany, and South Korea.

In the Middle East, U.S. military facilities are located in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.

Nasirzadeh added that Tehran recently tested missiles with two-ton warheads. He also stressed that Iran will not accept restrictions and is unwilling to negotiate on the matter.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei previously stated in February that Iran should further develop its military, including its missiles.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to bomb Iran if a new nuclear deal is not reached.

The next round of talks will be held this week. Earlier, Trump said the negotiations would take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, while Tehran said it would occur on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Oman.

Iran is expected to present a counterproposal to the previous US offer for a nuclear deal, which Iran rejected. On Tuesday, Trump accused Iran of becoming "far more aggressive" in the nuclear talks.

On May 23, the U.S. and Iran held the fifth round of negotiations in Rome regarding Tehran's nuclear program. Omani mediator, Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, stated that some progress, but not definitive, was made.
