Israel Kills at Least 31 Gaza Aid Seekers Near U.S.-Backed Center

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli forces on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 killed at least 31 Palestinians near the U.S. aid distribution point in central Gaza.

As quoted from Aljazeera, Mahmoud Basal, the Gaza's Civil Defense spokesperson, said that the morning attack occurred near an aid distribution point in central Gaza and killed 31 people.

Basal added that around 200 people were wounded in the strike and taken to hospitals. He said that the casualties were a result of "Israeli tank and drone fire."

Eyewitnesses also confirmed to Anadolu that the Israeli forces fired intensively at people waiting to receive aid near the Netzarim Corridor in the southern part of Gaza City.

Jaber Al Hawjeri, a father of six, was near the aid distribution site in the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza when the Israeli forces opened fire.

Desperate due to running out of food supplies, including bread, Al Hawjeri said people were "shot at" by what he believed to be snipers or drones.

"We went to face death for some humanitarian aid, but we were attacked and left without any food," he told Aljazeera, adding that his nephew was among the injured.

“Victims were all over the place … The situation is going from bad to worse. We have no hope at all.”

On Tuesday, the Gaza's media office said that Israeli forces had killed more than 160 Palestinians seeking aid from the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since its launch on May 27.

The U.S.-Israeli mechanism has been widely rejected and criticized by the international community, including the UN.

Meanwhile, the Israeli forces also killed five other Palestinians in a drone attack in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. Four of them were killed in an attack on a tent for the displaced in the Al-Mawasi area, while one person was killed in the Qizan Rashwan area, according to a source at Nasser Hospital speaking to Aljazeera.

The Israeli forces, who refuse to heed international calls for a ceasefire, have launched brutal attacks on Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most of whom were women and children.

Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a case of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war in the enclave.
