TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Accompanied by his legal counsel, Jokowi filed a report concerning allegations of a fake diploma.
Wearing a brown long-sleeved batik shirt, Jokowi arrived at the Public Service Center (SPKT) building of the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters at around 9:50 AM Western Indonesia Time. He exited the building at 10:15 and quickly entered his car, dodging reporters.
Jokowi then proceeded to the General Criminal Investigation Directorate building at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, where he was still inside as of 10:50 AM.
On April 22, 2025, Jokowi gathered his legal team at the Seribu Rasa restaurant in Jakarta. The meeting discussed steps to address the ongoing controversy regarding his alleged fake diploma from Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
The controversy began when a group of people visited Jokowi's residence in Solo on April 17, 2025, questioning the authenticity of his high school and university diplomas. Despite presenting original documents and receiving official confirmation from UGM's Rector, the allegations continued.
Jokowi's legal team emphasized that the validity of Jokowi's educational status is not solely determined by the physical presence of a diploma. They pointed to the official statement from Gadjah Mada University as irrefutable proof.
“If the diploma is lost, or the university no longer exists, does that mean the person never studied? The most important thing is the official statement from the university,” said one of Jokowi's legal team members, Andra Reinhard, during a press conference at Senayan Avenue, South Jakarta, on Monday, April 14.
Andra criticized statements made by experts who analyzed and questioned the authenticity of the diploma without legal authority, calling the actions reckless. He also noted that such actions could cause public unrest. “They did not act on legal orders. This is not proof but an attempt to sway public opinion,” he said.
He expressed regret that the issue persisted despite Jokowi having passed multiple verification stages, from his time as mayor to governor, and his two terms as president. He also pointed out that Jokowi's diploma had been verified by the Regional General Elections Commission (KPUD) and the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Meanwhile, a group of advocates from Peradi Bersatu reported three individuals who had been vocal about the fake diploma allegations: Roy Suryo, Tifauzia Tyassuma, and Rismon Sianipar. They were accused of causing disruption, and the report was accepted by the Central Jakarta Police.
