Landslides Hit Bogor and West Bandung, Leave One Dead and Two Missing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that a landslide occurred in West Bandung Regency on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 06:15 PM local time.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at BNPB, said that the landslide in Cikidang Village, Lembang Sub-district, was triggered by intense rainfall, unstable soil conditions, and steep slopes.

One person was killed, and seven families, totaling 11 people, have been displaced and are still being accounted for.

“The material losses include one house that was severely damaged, while three others are at risk,” Muhari said in a written statement on Sunday, July 7.

According to Muhari, the West Bandung Regency Disaster Management Agency has conducted a rapid assessment of the area, evacuated victims, and redirected them to main roads. Joint teams have distributed logistical support and necessary equipment to the affected areas.

As of Sunday, July 6, authorities were still managing the situation at the landslide site, where homes had been buried. “Currently, survivors and those whose houses are under threat are temporarily staying with relatives or close family members,” he added.

In addition to the West Bandung incident, other landslides were also reported in Bogor Regency, West Java. According to Muhari, heavy and prolonged rainfall, combined with unstable ground conditions, triggered landslides in several areas on Saturday.

The affected sub-districts include Dramaga, Kemang, Ciampea, Cibungbulang, and Megamendung. “Two people are still missing,” Muhari confirmed.

Reported material losses include two houses with minor damage, one house with moderate damage, three homes at risk, one place of worship, one access road, and two damaged retaining walls.

Muhari said the Bogor Regency Disaster Management Agency has coordinated with local officials, provided disaster education and safety warnings, and continued on-site response efforts.

Evacuation in Cipayung Girang Village remains difficult due to unstable ground conditions and high water levels in the Kali Ciesek river. Urgent needs in the area include tarps, gabions, and emergency supplies.

“Personnel are still handling the situation at the site,” he said.

BNPB has urged local governments and communities to remain alert to the risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly during or after extended periods of heavy rainfall.

Muhari advised residents living in landslide-prone areas—such as hillsides, steep slopes, or riverbanks—to stay vigilant. He recommended taking immediate shelter in a safer location if heavy rain persists for more than an hour, especially if there are signs like changes in river water color or rumbling sounds from nearby hills or mountains.

“Always follow the instructions of field officers and avoid unreliable information,” he said.

At this time, Muhari is calling on local governments and relevant agencies to monitor rivers, conduct area surveys, and prepare emergency plans, including temporary evacuation routes and shelters for residents in high-risk zones.
