TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Legoland Resort in Shanghai, China, officially opened its doors on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Recognized as the world’s largest Legoland, the park features thousands of structures built from more than 85 million Lego bricks.
The grand opening ceremony took place around 10 a.m. at the lively Lego Plaza, with the iconic giant Lego figure 'Dada' serving as the backdrop.
According to Channel News Asia, Lego fans eagerly entered the park as soon as it opened. Many wore themed shirts and waved Lego-branded flags while exploring the expansive resort, which covers 318,000 square meters. Despite the intense heat, their enthusiasm remained high.
75 Interactive Rides and Attractions
Legoland Shanghai was developed through a collaboration between Shanghai Guoyi Investment Management Co., Ltd., KIRKBI, Merlin Entertainments, and CMC Inc. Designed specifically for families and children aged 2 to 12, the resort features eight themed zones with a total of 75 interactive rides, performances, and attractions.
Fiona Eastwood, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, said that Legoland Shanghai blends the classic Legoland experience with Chinese cultural elements, creating a destination that is globally recognizable and culturally meaningful. She explained that the park aims to connect children with their heritage through imaginative play.
A Global Destination in Shanghai
Eastwood also noted that the Legoland Shanghai Resort is expected to attract not only domestic visitors but also international tourists, thanks to Shanghai’s global appeal.
To celebrate the resort’s opening, a grand celebration will be held through July 13. During this period, the park will be transformed with themed decorations, immersive activities, and exclusive events.
Since May 31, the resort has been undergoing internal testing and trial operations. These included thorough evaluations of its attractions, dining areas, entertainment shows, and accommodations, as reported by Global Times.
The park also introduces several exclusive features designed to deliver world-class entertainment to Chinese families while fostering creativity. Among the highlights is the global premiere of the Lego Monkie Kid live show, staged at the famous Flower Fruit Mountain.
Visitors can also enjoy the world’s first Legoland cruise, which sails past a large-scale Lego re-creation of a traditional Jiangnan water town set against a Lego-built modern Shanghai skyline.
