
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, in coordination with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, are investigating the death of a young diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The victim was found dead in a boarding house in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner General Susatyo Purnomo Condro outlined several steps being taken to uncover the cause of the diplomat's death. One of the measures includes reviewing surveillance footage from around the boarding house.
"The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, along with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, are still delving and analyzing all witness statements, CCTV footage, and other evidence to uncover the cause of the victim's death," Susatyo said in a statement on Tuesday.
He explained that the victim was discovered with his head wrapped in tape and his body covered with a blanket on the bed.
"The victim was found lying on the bed with his head covered in tape and his body covered with a blanket," he said.
According to Susatyo, the discovery was first reported by local residents.
"We received a report from local residents regarding the discovery of a man who had passed away in a boarding house in the Gondangdia area," he said.
Following the report, police went to the scene and carried out a crime scene investigation. "Based on the preliminary examination, the victim was found in a deceased condition," he continued.
The victim’s body has been transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Foreign Ministry Confirms Identity and Offers Condolences
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Roy Soemirat confirmed that the body found with tape wrapped around the head belonged to a staff member of the ministry.
"Indeed, one of the Foreign Ministry staff," said Roy in a statement on Tuesday.
Roy also stated that the Ministry is fully cooperating with the investigation. "And will continue to provide the necessary support during the ongoing process," he added.
Judha Nugraha, Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad at the Ministry, said the victim, identified by the initials ADP, was a young functional diplomat who handled criminal cases involving Indonesian citizens overseas. He was 39 years old and is survived by his wife and two children.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys deep condolences to the family of the victim," said Judha at the Parliament Complex in Senayan on Tuesday.
Judha declined to comment on the cause of death, stressing that the investigation is fully in the hands of the police.
"For details, it can be asked to the police," he said.
