TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad disclosed that the Indonesian government will discuss its stance on the Israel-Iran war.
The House of Representatives has communicated with President Prabowo Subianto, Dasco said. "The leadership of House Commission I will hold talks with President Prabowo to hear the government's stance toward the Iran-Israel conflict and give inputs," Dasco said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The Secretary General of the Gerindra Party admitted that communication between the president and the House is obstructed at the moment due to Prabowo's packed schedule. He has yet to reveal when the meeting between parliament and the president will take place.
Prabowo to date has yet to declare publicly Indonesia's stance amid the raging Middle East conflict. The Indonesian House ensured the government will reveal its stance in the upcoming meeting.
Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro previously said that Indonesia upheld the non-alignment principle, but will "strongly promote peace," as he said on June 24 in Jakarta.
According to Juri, peace is far better than war since the latter claims lives. Prabowo has instructed his aides to monitor the developments of the war between Iran and Israel and called for precautionary measures to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in the region.
The government has noted that a total of 578 Indonesian citizens resided in Iran and Israel amid the escalation of conflict between the two countries. Iran housed 386 Indonesian nationals, while 192 were staying in Israel.
