Prince Harry, Meghan Plan Return to the UK

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prince Harry and Meghan are preparing to move back to the United Kingdom later this month, according to reports confirmed by The Telegraph.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex intend to relocate from their home in Montecito, California, to a private, non-royal residence outside London. Their two children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, are reportedly enrolled to start at a British school this September.

King Charles III was informed of the planned relocation on Sunday. Reports indicate the topic was not raised during the family's visit to the King's Highgrove House estate in Gloucestershire in July.

A royal source noted that while King Charles welcomes the chance to see the family more regularly, there will be no change to Harry and Meghan's official status as private individuals and non-working royals. The Prince and Princess of Wales have also been informed of the planned move.

The decision comes six years after the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Since then, relations between the Sussexes and the broader royal family have faced public strain, following high-profile media interviews and published memoirs. Despite the move, the couple will retain their properties in California and Portugal, while Meghan will continue operating her lifestyle brand, As Ever, from their new UK base.

A central issue surrounding their return remains security arrangements. Prince Harry previously expressed reluctance to bring his family to Britain without dedicated police protection, having lost a legal challenge last year against the UK government regarding his downgraded taxpayer-funded security.

Addressing the upcoming return, a Home Office spokesperson stated, "The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate," adding that official policy prohibits disclosing specific details.

The move is also expected to allow Prince Harry to focus on his domestic charitable endeavors, particularly the Invictus Games set to take place in Birmingham in July 2027.

Welcoming the news, David Wiseman, chief programs officer at the Invictus Games Foundation, told the BBC: "I will be really pleased to have him back in the country. Moving is stressful for anyone so I hope it all goes well and the children settle well at school."
