TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Turkey will produce and export 48 KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia based on a new defense agreement, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, as reported by Anadolu.
In a post on platform X, Erdogan praised the contributors to the KAAN project, especially the Defense Industry Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), as the export agreement was signed, reaching a record value.
He promised that Indonesia's local capabilities would also be utilized in the production of KAAN.
"I hope this agreement, which highlights the progress and achievements of our domestic and national defense industry, will be beneficial for both Türkiye and Indonesia," Erdogan said.
TAI's fifth-generation fighter jet, KAAN, completed its maiden flight last year, reaching a speed of 230 knots and an altitude of 8,000 feet (about 2,438 meters).
According to a statement from TAI, the agreement for 48 units of fighter jets was signed in Jakarta, as part of the INDO Defense 2025 defense industry event.
TAI announced that under the agreement, 48 KAAN fighter jets will be delivered within 120 months. The jets will be equipped with domestically produced Turkish engines.
The agreement covers not only the delivery of the KAAN but also the transfer of aviation technology to Indonesia.
The agreement also aims to promote knowledge sharing and the development of local capabilities through strategic cooperation between Turkey and Indonesia.
Haluk Gorgun, president of SSB, stated on X: "In our aviation journey spanning over a century, we are now proud to share our 5th generation fighter jet with friendly countries."
