TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Cloud Asia Pacific Vice President of Customer Engineering Moe Abdula revealed two human capabilities that will never be replaced by new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Moe, despite various waves of technological development, a number of basic human abilities have never been replaced and are expected to remain relevant in the AI era.
As quoted by ANTARA, Moe said human skills such as empathy and the ability to build meaningful connections will remain indispensable despite technological advances, arguing that understanding emotions, relating to others' experiences, and responding appropriately in social interactions are uniquely human qualities that are difficult for AI to replicate.
For example, Moe explained that police officers have to interact directly with the public in various situations.
Moe said professions that rely on reasoning and empathy, such as policing, are unlikely to be replaced by AI because skills like de-escalating tense situations, understanding people's circumstances, and making sound judgments remain uniquely human.
Besides empathy, Moe cites the human ability to continually discover how things work and adapt to change as another advantage that AI lacks.
He explained that AI essentially operates based on the data and instructions provided by humans, which limits its ability to react to anything it hasn't learned. On the contrary, humans have the unique ability to create new ways of doing things and adapt to changing times.
Moe gave an example of how humans adapt to technological developments. Starting with the use of animals for transportation, humans developed new technologies until modern vehicles were created.
A similar shift occurred in education and the workplace when manual calculation skills, previously considered an indicator of intelligence, became less relevant with the advent of calculators.
Moe said humans will continue to adapt to new technologies and use them to solve increasingly complex problems, making the ability to innovate and apply technology a vital skill in the AI era.
