TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The CEO of Daya Anagata Nusantara, or Danantara sovereign wealth fund, Rosan Roeslani, unveiled the funding plan for Garuda Indonesia's asset management. The flagship airline is expected to use the fund for the purchase of 15 new aircraft.
According to Rosan, the funding plan is intended to support the continuous growth of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). "Yes (funding for aircraft purchase), the holding is currently evaluating how to boost and optimize the existing assets," said Rosan when met at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
However, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming emphasized that funding for operational asset improvement is not only given to Garuda Indonesia, but to several other state companies.
Two Tempo sources who are familiar with this information confirmed this. One source mentioned that Garuda Indonesia is seeking funding to finance the purchase of 15 aircraft, as the airline has approximately 46 aircraft available for serving all passengers.
Another Tempo source also stated that Danantara is not fully convinced to invest in Garuda Indonesia and is still reviewing the appropriate funding scheme for it.
In response, Garuda Indonesia CEO Wamildan Tsani on May 20 said Danantara's plan is entirely within the authority of shareholders and stakeholders. He mentioned that Garuda Indonesia periodically coordinates with the government while ensuring the company's performance strategy.
