Jaecoo J5 Tops Indonesia's Best-Selling Cars in August

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Indonesian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Gaikindo) recorded the Jaecoo J5 BEV 4x2 Premium electric vehicle as the best-selling passenger car in August 2026. Sales of the model grew, maintaining its top ranking since July.

“Sales in July amounted to 3,154 units, reaching 3,211 units in August,” according to Gaikindo data published on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

The data reflect wholesale sales, measuring shipments from factories to dealerships. Total sales across the Jaecoo brand also rose, climbing from 3,200 units in July to 3,300 units in August. Retail sales figures mirrored that same volume.

In second place, the BYD Atto 1 Dynamic recorded 3,011 units sold in July before dipping to 2,475 units in August. In terms of wholesale figures, BYD dominated Indonesia's electric vehicle market with sales rising from 6,569 units in July to 7,870 units in August. Meanwhile, the brand's retail sales grew from 5,240 units in July to 6,861 units in August.

In third place, the gasoline-powered Toyota Calya 1.2 G (M/T) saw sales increase from 1,501 units in July to 2,150 units in August. On a wholesale level, Toyota retained the top spot for overall car sales in Indonesia, despite dropping from 21,642 units in July to 20,357 units in August. Meanwhile, its retail sales rose from 21,008 units in July to 21,938 units in August.
